At a glance

Peru is an intoxicating mix of culture, history and incredible natural scenery. This 14-day trip is perfect for those looking to see the very best of this beautiful country alongside top-quality service, expert guiding and the best luxury accommodation.

Your adventure starts with a night in Lima before heading to the lush waterways of the northern Amazon. You’ll spend three nights aboard a luxury expedition vessel, gliding through the lush tributaries and enjoying daily excursions by smaller boats so you can explore deep into the rainforest. Depending on the season, you can also embark on nature walks with expert guides, as monkeys swing through the trees and colourful birds flit overhead.

You’ll then enjoy a culinary tour back in Lima before heading to the Sacred Valley, an area of jaw-dropping natural beauty and one full of history. Once acclimatised to the altitude, board a luxury train to the legendary Inca city of Machu Picchu. This ancient citadel is shrouded in mystery and your expert private guide will bring the location and its history to life.

Return to civilisation and more archaeological wonders in the former Inca capital and Spanish colonial city of Cusco, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, then take the train up to Lake Titicaca at 3,812m (12,507 feet) above sea level for a final three nights at the fabulous Titilaka. The most luxurious place to stay on the lake, you’ll take boat trips out to meet the people that use reeds to weave the islands on which they live, all while learning about the unique cultural importance of its waters to Peru.

Culinary tour: Market visit and lunch at La Picanteria Culinary tour: Market visit and lunch at La Picanteria

Start with a visit to one of Lima’s most emblematic and picturesque markets, where you can see, taste and purchase the most popular ingredients used in Peruvian cuisine. In the hands of our culinary expert, you may have the chance to try fruits from the coast, mountains and jungle, such as chirimoya, pacay, mango, passion fruit, aguaymanto and aguaje. You'll also have the chance to stop by the impressive seafood section, selling the likes of prawns, shrimp, octopus and scallops.

If you like, you can try and buy dried fruits and browse the handicrafts on offer, before then heading to La Picanteria, a restaurant owned by famous chef, Hector Solís. The restaurant looks to reproduce the rustic and traditional atmosphere of a picanteria, and the menu varies according to what's best in the market that day.

Visit the Inca fortress town of Ollantaytambo. The site was built just as the Spaniards arrived and is one of the most important if not visible vestiges of how the Incas inhabited and functioned in their cities making it a fascinating place to explore. There is a fortress at the top of the hill (and quite a few steps) which is particularly interesting to investigate for the techniques the Incas used in its construction.
